  • Pastel ACEO and Thank You Note

This is one of the vibrant, colorful pastel ACEOs that I created a couple of weeks ago.  I thought you would enjoy seeing it.  I really enjoyed making these Art Cards, ACEOs with traditional mediums .. in this case pastel.  I have been wearing rubber gloves the last couple of years when I have been creating with pastels.  I don't know if that is silly or smart.  I tend to do a lot of blending of colors to lay down a carpet of color to then draw the image  into.  I sketched a little with pencil so I could work the fields of color into rough shapes.  I love smearing the colors around to get the effects I like.  I don't think most artists use pastel this way .. but I enjoy it and some people like the effect.

Each birthday and Christmas I give two of my nieces cards of my artwork.  Part of the present is they get to look through my website and blog to choose whichever painting they choose.  It is a fun way to have a focus together.  The last year or two I have also given them each an Art Card, ACEO of the same chosen image.  They have had great fun getting them. And I LOVE getting back thank you notes on these cards!

As a second ACEO, this year I gave my niece Sarah a print of one of the pastel ACEOs I recently created.  Here is what she said in  her thank note : "Thank you very much for the cards and the two trading cards. I absolutely love them! I really like the extra trading card and how you can see the pencil strokes and the texture (I pulled it out of its sleeve to touch it - just to see - it's amazing and really pretty!)" This is part of what you would get if you purchase one of these.

I think I will put some prints of these pastels in my Etsy Shop.  I am working on some originals also so that I can list them in one or more of my online shops.  Let me know if you would like one ... you can also buy one here.   Thank you for stopping by!

  • Featured in a Spotlight!

I will work to get more personal in my entries ... been extremely rough here ... hope you will indulge awhile longer!! Thank you!! ~ Diane

Today I was featured in a Spot Light on Made By Hand. The site is Made By Hand - and another time I will share more about it.  Recently I have been accepted by the ACEO Market on 1000 Markets … and someone there made this Spot Light and included me.  I think it looks pretty cool.  They also have a script that you can use to insert the Spot Light into your site or blog.  I had never heard of this site before today but I made a profile and shop there and I will share these links sometime soon. (There is more about 1000 Markets below.)

    Spot Light of ACEO Market

1000 Markets is a shop for people selling unique items.  Part of what they say is “Our merchants are small, independent, artisan businesses built by people who love their craft. They make and sell unique products, based on their own vision, personality and story.”  Unlike many of the other online shops, you have to be accepted by them to open a shop.  Anyone can join, look, comment and buy …  If you want to open a shop, you create a shop with at least 5 items and ask them to approve you. Here is my shop if you would to peek at it … Diane’s 1000 Markets (http://dianeclancy.1000markets.com). You can see lots of my vibrant, colorful paintings there!

    Diane’s 1000 Markets

    Diane’s 1000 Markets

1000 Markets is a marketplace that has Markets (instead of teams as Etsy does).  So there are individual merchants and then markets … which are merchants who come together with a common purpose ..  geography, type product, method of making items or styles of art.  The ACEO Market, which recently accepted me, is a market that showcases … guess what … ACEOs … Art Cards (2  1/2 x 3 1/2″) that are a fantastic, affordable way to collect an artist’s artwork.  I highly recommend them.  At the ACEO Market (http://www.1000markets.com/groups/aceos) you can see lots of different, unique ACEOS!!  Please stop by!

If you are a customer, this a great way to see more art,  If you are a seller, I recommend 1000 Markets as a useful place to sell!  I hope you enjoyed hearing about these places and maybe even got some ideas for yourself! Thank you for coming by!

  • Mark Forster and Time Management

Mark Forster has a new method of time management, using the concepts of “Thought - Decision - Action” or “Stimulus - Response.” These are wonderful, new, useful concepts.

I read about a really cool site Get Everything Done (http://www.markforster.net/) so I went and checked it out. Mark Forster has 3 books (at least) and numerous articles about various ways to tackle life so that we may be the person we really want to be. Time management and organization can be the foundation for what we want to do with our lives.  Yesterday I read the first chapter of a book that was a big WOW for me … keeping reading to find the change in vision that chapter gave me.

I used to be very effective at getting enormous amounts of things done … often feeling pretty relaxed.  But circumstances have changed and many readers of this blog knew I have been in an overwhelm mode for way too long.  This first chapter (never mind the whole book) has given me a life-line to get back my serene, creative, joyful self!

The key - we each have two parts of ourselves … part of our brain uses “Thought - Decision - Action” and another part of our brain that acts from “Stimulus - Response.” I have been on automatic coming from Stimulus - Response.  Working with these two principles is his new system of time management. You can read the first chapter for free right here.

It has been very helpful to me today.  I can see the places I am still being reactive to stimulus around me.  And I was also able to stay focused a chunk of the day.  I have been tangling with taxes and other financial details that I need to do.  I guess I am tired enough still that it is being difficult, but I did stay focused and got a lot done anyway.

I think I can go quite a distance playing with these ideas to help me get back on track. Mark has this fantastic list of tasks and he asks us to decide whether they are “Thought - Decision - Action” or “Stimulus - Response.”  I was surprised by some of the answered but it sure helped me GET the idea!! He has lots of resources on his website - definitely worth checking out!

What do you think? How do you manage your time?  Are you on track?  What needs to change for you?  Thank you so much for coming by!
